This year marked our 20th annual of Swollfest Fishing Rodeo and it was an amazing event.  With over 750 registered in the tournament, Swollfest hosted a banner year.  There were three days of great weather, some amazing fish entered, but most importantly, we donated $250,000 to the Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge and pledged another $250,000.

It was such a humbling feeling, knowing that so many people have believed in our mission for so long, allowing us to save and make such a great donation to such a worthy cause.

Not only were we able to donate this large monetary value for our state’s children, we also donated to Heroes on the Water, which helps our armed service warriors use kayak fishing to relax and heal.  This year, Swollfest donated 16 kayaks and a custom trailer to Heroes on the Water and their team that came to receive the kayaks and fish the tournament, got a standing ovation that lasted several minutes.

It is such an honor for our Swollfest family to be able to recognize the great men and women the fight everyday for our country.  To see the gratitude from everyone at this year’s event for our veterans, really made you proud to be an American.

Thank you to all that participate, sponsor, and volunteer to make Swollfest a success.  There is no greater gift than to give your time to help others.

Each person associated to Swollfest understands how important this philosophy is, especially when we get to the end of the Saturday night and recognize our Inspiration Award.

For our 20th annual, there was one person that exemplifies Swollfest and inspires us all to carry out our 100% volunteer run mission and that is George Wood.  It was an honor for us to choose George as our 2017 Inspirational Award recipient.

Thank you again for all your support and mark your calendar for June 6-9, 2018 for the 21st annual Swollfest Fishing Rodeo.  Come be a part of something extra special.
